Rutgers Tops SCSU, 190.700-186.875

On vault, Rutgers was led by its two rookie standouts, Jamye Shelton (Griffin, GA) and Erin Lynch (Mullica Hill, NJ), who tied for second place with scores of 9.375. Senior Kamla Modi (Bayside, NY) also performed well for the Scarlet Knights, scoring a 9.275. SCSU’s Sarah Wesley won the event with a 9.400.
Senior Kristen Marino (Hillsborough, NJ) won her second bars title of the season, scoring a 9.825. Modi was the second-place finisher overall, scoring a 9.700, while junior Laura Iepson (Sweetwater, NJ) took third with a 9.600.
Junior Caitlin Wight (Washington, PA) won her first event title, scoring a 9.650 on beam, closely followed by Iepson’s 9.625 in second. Rounding out the top performances by Rutgers was junior Lisa Abrams (Mt. Ephraim, NJ) with a 9.550.
Rutgers also took the floor competition with sophomore Nicci Bradder (Dover, NH), scoring a 9.725. Scoring 9.675’s to round out the Scarlet Knight scoring were Lynch and sophomores Sveta Shterenberg (Sharon, MA) and Stephanie Zick (Pittsburgh, PA).
Bradder finished third in her first all-around competition, scoring a 37.125. SCSU’s Wesley placed first all-around with a 37.975, while Kristan Silvestri took second for the Owls with a 37.550.
Rutgers will return home to face Pittsburgh and Cornell on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. in the Livingston Recreation Center.
