Johnson Wins All-Around at Pittsburgh Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH, PA – Lorena Johnson (Lilburn, GA) won the all-around title for the third consecutive week as the Rutgers gymnastics team (7-3, 0-3 EAGL) finished in second place in a quad meet between RU, Pittsburgh, Cornell and Brown on Saturday evening, Feb. 7.
Rutgers scored 192.550 points, behind Pittsburgh (194.730) and ahead of Cornell (188.475) and Brown (188.475). Rutgers’ best event was the floor exercise, in which it followed up last week’s school record score of 49.275 with a 49.075.
In the all-around, Johnson scored a 38.600, including a 9.775 on floor to finish in a tie for 10th place. Pittsburgh swept the top three on floor, but Rutgers had Sveta Shterenberg (Sharon, MA) and Caitlin Wight (Washington, PA) tie for fourth place (9.850). Nicole Bradder (Dover, NH) scored a 9.825 to finish in a tie for eighth place.
RU’s top performer on vault was Jamye Shelton (Griffin, GA), who was sixth with a score of 9.650. Pittsburgh swept the top three placewinners in the event.
On bars, Tracy Heckler (Laurel Springs, NJ) finished in a tie for third place with a team-high 9.800. Stephanie Zick (Pittsburgh, PA) was behind Hackler with a score of 9.775 to finish in fifth place.
For the first time this season, Shterenberg was Rutgers’ top placewinner on the balance beam, earning a tie for fifth place with a score of 9.675. Lisa Abrams (Mt. Ephraim, NJ) ended up in ninth place (9.625).
The Scarlet Knights have the upcoming week off before returning to action on Saturday, Feb. 14, when they travel to New Haven, CT, to battle Yale at 2:00 p.m.
