PISCATAWAY, NJ – Four members of the Rutgers University gymnastics team have earned All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) honors, the league office announced today.
The Scarlet Knights’ honorees are seniors Lisa Abrams (Mt. Ephraim, NJ) and Caitlin Wight (Washington, PA) and juniors Stephanie Zick (Pittsburgh, PA) and Sveta Shterenberg (Sharon, MA)
Abrams, who serves as one of Rutgers’ co-captains along with Wight, earned First Team All-EAGL on the balance beam. This season, Abrams established a new beam record when she scored a 9.925 against Temple of Jan. 21. In last weekend’s regular season finale against North Carolina, Ursinus and Cortland, Abrams scored a 9.925 once again, and is averaging a 9.713 in 11 meets this year. It is the second all-conference honor in Abrams’ career, after being named the Second Team All-Beam squad in 2003.
Wight earned second team All-EAGL honors in the floor exercise for the first time in her career. A 2003 NCAA East Regional alternate, Wight has a 9.836 season average on the floor, helping Rutgers to a 17-6 overall record. In RU’s upset of 25th-ranked Maryland on Feb. 28, Wight scored a 9.900 on the floor as the Scarlet Knights finished first overall at the quad meet.
Zick was selected the All-EAGL uneven bars team for the first time in her career. Zick is currently averaging a team-best 9.801 on the uneven bars with a 9.900 against Maryland, Bridgeport and Temple on Feb. 28.
Shterenberg joined Zick on the All-EAGL uneven bars second team for the first time in her career. Shterenberg is averaging a 9.755 on the bars with two scores of 9.8 (2/14 and 2/28) and a 9.85 on Jan. 31.
Abrams, Wight, Zick and Shterenberg are also members of the All-EAGL academic team. Rutgers had a conference-high 18 student-athletes named to the team, which was announced last week.
