Rutgers Gymnastics Downs Southern Connecticut State

NEW HAVEN, CT – The Rutgers gymnastics team (4-2, 0-2 EAGL) defeated Southern Connecticut State (1-1) on Friday, Jan. 28, in New Haven, CT. The Scarlet Knights outscored the Owls, 190.125-180.550.
Rutgers had top performers in each event, including a sweep of the floor exercise. Senior Nicci Bradder (Dover, NH) led the Scarlet Knights with a 9.675 performance in the floor exercise, while freshman Amanda Apadula (Sewell, NJ) finished second with a score of 9.650. RU claimed a three-way tie for third place, with freshman Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, PA) and sophomores Kelly Straka (Fairless Hills, PA) and Beth Fittery (Denver, PA), scoring a 9.525.
Pannick was one of RU’s other top performers, as she took first in both the vault and uneven bars. Pannick scored a 9.525 to finish first in the vault, followed by Bradder in second with a 9.475 and sophomore Jackie Campbell (Wheatley Heights, NY) took third with a 9.450. Pannick registered a 9.625 to finish in first place on the uneven bars, while Bradder and sophomore Lorena Johnson (Lilburn, GA) finished tied for second place with a score of a 9.550.
On the balance beam, junior Gina Roselle (Tinton Falls, NJ) took top honors for Rutgers with a 9.650 and Campbell tied for second with Southern Connecticut’s Sarah Wesley, scoring a 9.625. Apadula and senior Marinelle Antonio (Mt. Laurel, NJ) tied for fourth place with a 9.200.
Rutgers will return to Piscataway, NJ, for its second home meet of the season. The Scarlet Knights will take on Pittsburgh, Brockport and Brown in a quad meet on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Livingston Recreation Center.
