Rutgers Gymnastics Takes First in Quad Meet

PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers gymnastics team (7-2, 1-2 EAGL) scored 190.750 points to claim the top spot in its first quad meet of the season. The quad meet included Pittsburgh, Brown University and Brockport State.
Pittsburgh finished second with 190.050 points, while Brown took third (186.000) and Brockport State ended in fourth place (183.450).
Sophomore Kelly Straka (Fairless Hills, PA) won the individual title on the floor exercise, scoring a season-high 9.850. Finishing in a tie for third place was senior Stephanie Zick (Pittsburgh, PA), who also registered a season-high with a score of 9.800. On the balance beam, junior Gina Roselle (Tinton Falls, NJ) took top honors for the Scarlet Knights with a 9.775.
Zick and fellow senior Nicci Bradder (Dover, NH) each scored a 9.675 on the bars to finished tied for second place with Pittsburgh’s Brittany Baldwin and sophomore Beth Fittery (Denver, PA) took second in the all-around with a combined score of 38.200.
“This is a big win for us,” said head coach Chrystal Chollet-Norton. “We’ve been working on putting together clean routines and this was one of our best days on the floor.”
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Friday, Feb. 11, when they travel to College Park, MD, to face Maryland, Temple and Brockport State in a quad meet at 7:00 p.m.
