Rutgers Gymnastics Falls to NC State EAGL Action

RALEIGH, NC - The Rutgers gymnastics team (1-1, 1-1 EAGL) dropped its dual meet to fellow EAGL member North Carolina State (4-0, 1-0 EAGL) on Saturday afternoon, at the Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, NC. The Wolfpack topped the Scarlet Knights by a score of 191.000-187.000.
Leading the way for RU was junior Lorena Johnson (Lilburn, GA), who placed third in the all-around competition with a combined score of 37.250. Johnson also took second on the balance beam with a 9.550 and was followed by classmate Casey Santangelo (Cherry Hill, NJ), who finished third on the beam with a 9.425.
Senior Lauren Sisler (Newport, VA) was the Scarlet Knights’ high-scorer on the floor exercise with a 9.525 (fourth place), while senior Erin Lynch (Mullica Hill, NJ) placed fifth with a 9.475.
Freshman Latara Northcutt (Snellville, GA), the reigning EAGL Rookie of the Week (Jan. 8), posted the team’s best marks on both the vault and uneven bars. Northcutt tied NC State’s Kylah Bachman for fourth place on the vault with a 9.575 and finished sixth on the bars with a 9.650.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they take on James Madison on the road.
