Rutgers Wrestling Falls to Maryland in Home Opener

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (December 9, 2006) - The Rutgers wrestling team (0-2) dropped its home-opener to the University of Maryland, 36-4, on Saturday at the College Avenue Gym.
Freshman Keith Dobish (Lodi, N.J.) posted his first career dual-match win at 184 pounds, also recording the lone win for the Scarlet Knights in the match. Dobish took an early 2-0 lead against Maryland's Rich DiPietro with a takedown at the 2:03 mark. Leading 2-1 to start the second period, Dobish selected the defensive position and escaped just eight seconds in.
After a takedown at the 1:39 mark, Dobish was awarded two backpoints before a DiPietro escape, taking a 7-2 lead into the final two minutes. Dobish scored another takedown, two nearfall points and earned a point for riding time to win the 12-3 major decision.
At 133 pounds, Dan Hilt (Manalapan, N.J.) fell in a tough 8-5 decision to the Terrapins' John Kohler. With 32 seconds remaining in the first period, Hilt tied the score at two with a reversal. In the second, Kohler scored the only two points on a takedown after Hilt selected the neutral position. Following a Kohler escape from the defensive position, Hilt scored on a takedown to cut the lead to, 5-4. Kohler reversed Hilt with 1:11 left and after an escape with 13 seconds left, Hilt was unable to score, falling, 8-5.
Chris Norrell (Phillipsburg, N.J.) dropped a 7-3 decision at 157 pounds to the Terrapins' Mike McGill. Trailing 2-1 after the first, Norrell scored his second escape of the match with 14 seconds left following a McGill takedown earlier in the period. Norrell made it 4-3 with an escape at the 1:15 mark, but with two seconds left McGill got a takedown to seal the win.
The Scarlet Knights will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 12, when they host in-state rival Princeton at the College Avenue Gym at 7:00 p.m. RESULTS
