Rutgers Gymnastics Takes Seventh at the 2006 EAGL Championship

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers gymnastics team (13-9, 1-5 EAGL) scored 191.425 points en route to a seventh-place showing at the 2006 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship on Saturday, March 25.
Rutgers University and the Louis Brown Athletic Center (RAC) served as host site for the league’s 11th annual meet, which also featured George Washington, Maryland, New Hampshire, NC State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
North Carolina won the meet for the second consecutive year with 195.325 points, followed by NC State in second (195.075) and West Virginia in third (194.900).
Leading the Scarlet Knights on the vault was freshman Latara Northcutt (Snellville, GA), a second-team All-EAGL honoree, who finished tied for 16th place with a 9.800. Junior Jacki Campbell (Wheatley Heights, NY) followed in a tie for 33rd place with a 9.600.
Northcutt was also RU’s top performer on the bars, along with fellow second-team All-EAGL selection, junior Lorena Johnson (Lilburn, GA). Northcutt and Johnson each posted a 9.725 to tie for 14th place.
Johnson led Rutgers on the balance beam, finishing tied for 27th (9.600), while junior Beth Fittery (Denver, PA), the EAGL Scholar Athlete of the Year, tied for 30th (9.525). Fittery tied for 12th in the floor exercise with a 9.775, followed by junior Casey Santangelo (Cherry Hill, NJ) in a tie for 21st (9.725).
