Rutgers Gymnastics Tops Penn, 189.525-186.525

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Rutgers women's gymnastics team defeated Penn 189.525 - 186.525 Saturday afternoon at Hutchinson Gymnasium in the Scarlet Knights' first road contest of the season. RU improves to 2-1 on the season with the victory. Rutgers won three of the four events, taking the vault, beam and floor exercise in the meet.
Sophomore Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Latara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) finished second and third, respectively, in the vault. Sevarino also placed second in the floor exercise with a score of 9.775 to Marissa Rosen of Penn, who won the event with a 9.825. Sevarino registered a 35.625 in the all-around for the Scarlet Knights.
Senior Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, Pa.) tied with Penn's Lizzie Lowe with a score of 9.725 on the bars, just behind first place Rosen (9.800) of the Quakers. Sophomore Prishani Seebadri (Wenonah, N.J.)was right behind, tying for third place with Penn's Elise Bowe, with identical scores of 9.650.
Rutgers had three of the top four finishers on the beam. Pannick was a close second to Rosen of the Quakers with a score of 9.750 to Rosen's 9.775 in the event. Senior Tiffany Schramm (Orange County, Calif.) was third with a 9.725, while Northcutt posted a 9.700 to place fourth.
Saturday marked the first meeting between the two schools since 1996. The Scarlet Knights have won six of 13 all-time meetings with the Quakers.
Rutgers returns to action next Sunday, Jan. 20 as the Scarlet Knights travel to Washington, D.C. to compete in the George Washington Invitational at 4 p.m. COMPLETE RESULTS
