Scarlet Knights Place Eight In Binghamton Open

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Members of the Rutgers wrestling team, under the guidance of second-year head coach Scott Goodale, competed in the Binghamton Open, Saturday in Binghamton, N.Y. Eight wrestlers placed in the tournament, led by freshman Trevor Melde (Hewitt, N.J.), who took second at 141 while competing unattached.
Freshman Scott Winston (Jackson, N.J.) earned his second consecutive third-place finish at 157, as he also won the consolation bracket in the Oklahoma-Brockport Gold Tournament on Nov. 8. Two other Scarlet Knights took third, senior Lamar Brown (Red Bank, N.J.) competingunattached at 197 and redshirt sophomore DJ Russo (Netcong, N.J.) in the heavyweight division.
Competing unattached at 125, freshman Joey Langle (Howell, N.J.) took fourth, the same result for redshirt senior Mike Whalen (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.) at 174. Sophomore Mike Cucinotta (Gibbstown, N.J.) finished sixth in the 174-pound weight class, falling to Whalen in the consolation semifinals. Junior Kellen Bradley (Newton, N.J.) competed unattached at 149 and placed fifth.
Other wrestlers who competed in the tournament include Mike Demarco (Lyndhurst, N.J.) and Matt Fusco (Belleville, N.J.) at 125, Brian Bollette (Newton, N.J.) at 133, Dave Seidenberg (Red Bank, N.J.) at 141, Greg Zannetti (Edison, N.J.) at 157, Matt Rigoglioso (Wayne, N.J.) at 165, Ryan Roddy (Woodbridge, Conn.) unattached at 174, McPaul Ogbonna (East Hanover, N.J.) and Chris Orzechowski (Old Bridge, N.J.) at 184 and Sean DeDeyn (Bayville, N.J.) unattached in the heavyweight class.
Rutgers returns to Binghamton, N.Y. for the Sprawl & Brawl on Nov. 23. Rutgers will be competing against Columbia, North Carolina, Boise State and Clarion. BRACKET
