PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Three Rutgers wrestlers are among the leaders in the national statistics that were released on Wednesday. Redshirt sophomore 141-pound wrestler David Greenwald (Union, N.J.) is first in pins with 14, freshman 157-pound wrestler Scott Winston (Jackson, N.J.) is tied for third with seven major decisions and redshirt sophomore heavyweight DJ Russo (Netcong, N.J.) is seventh with 20 wins.
Greenwald is 16-6 on the season, including the 14 falls. He is coming off a 3-0 day in the Lock Haven Duals where he pinned all three of his opponents. Russo’s 20 wins is a career-high for the redshirt sophomore. He leads the team in that category. Winston is also ranked No. 18 nationally at 157 by two polls, W.I.N. Magazine and Amateur Wrestling News. He is 18-4 on the season, including an 8-3 mark in dual action.
The Scarlet Knights (11-3, 4-0 EIWA) are riding a seven-bout winning streak and have won their first four conference matches for the first time since 1960-61, when they started their EIWA schedule 6-0.
RU will face its toughest task this season with a match against No. 9 Lehigh, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the College Ave. Gym.
