Rutgers Gymnastics Falls at Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Rutgers gymnastics team dropped a road meet to EAGL rival Pittsburgh on Friday evening at the Fitzgerald Field House by a score of 192.300-189.075.
On the vault, sophomore Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) took third place with a score of 9.725, followed by junior Latara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) in fourth with a 9.700.
Senior Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, Pa.) led the Scarlet Knights on the uneven bars, taking fifth place with a score of 9.600. Sevarino recorded a season-high on the balance beam for the second straight meet, finishing in second place with her score of 9.675. She was followed by teammates Alison Hartwig (Wayne, N.J.) and Pannick, both scoring a 9.600 to tie for third.
Pittsburgh swept the first five places in the floor exercises, followed by Sevarino representing Rutgers in sixth with a 9.600. Senior Elizabeth Bohnsack (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was close behind in seventh with a score of 9.450.
Sevarino also improved her all-around score by a half-point, beating out the Panthers' Shannon Vafiadou with 38.175 total points to take first place.
The loss dropped the Scarlet Knights' record to 6-4 as the Panthers earned their first win of the 2008 season to improve to 1-5 .
The Scarlet Knights will return home to face Cortland on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Livingston Recreation Center for a 12 p.m. start.
