Rutgers Gymnastics Places Fourth at Penn State Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Rutgers women's gymnastics team placed fourth against a highly-competitive field in a quad meet Friday night at Red Hall on the campus of Penn State University. The Scarlet Knights posted a score of 189.475 to finish behind leader and No. 14-ranked Nebraska (196.000), No. 22-ranked Penn State (195.725) and Maryland (192.675).
The Scarlet Knights' score of 189.475 was their third highest team total of the season, while their score of 47.925 in the vault matched a season high (previously recorded at home on Feb. 23 in a five-team meet), and their score of 47.975 on the floor was a new season high.
JuniorLatara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) and freshman Nicole Rose (Maple Shade, N.J.)tied for 15th to lead RU in the vault competition with identical scores of 9.675.
The duo of Rose and Northcutt had matching scores in the floor exercise as well, as both Scarlet Knights recorded a 9.700 in the floor exercise to tie for 13th in the event. The scores were season highs for both individuals. Freshman Kiah Banfield (Newbury Park, Calif.) placed 16th with a 9.675 on the floor.
Northcutt and senior Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, Pa.)tied for 13th place in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.575, while freshman Ellese Gold (Englewood, N.J.) and senior Tiffany Schramm (Orange County, Calif.)finished 16th and 17th, with scores of 9.300 and 9.275, respectively.
Freshman Leigh Heinbaugh (Sicklerville, N.J.)placed 17th to lead the Scarlet Knights on the balance beam with a score of 9.625. Senior Jacqueline Verdon (Freehold, N.J.)was right behind with a 9.600 to finish 18th, while Schramm placed 19th with a score of 9.450.
Northcutt's 37.875 placed her ninth amongst challenging competition of gymnasts in the all-around.
Rutgers finished the regular season 11-13-1 and will travel to Morgantown, W. Va. for the EAGL Championships next Saturday, March, 29, scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of West Virginia University. RESULTS
