PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers gymnastics team travels to Morgantown, W.Va., this weekend to compete against a tough EAGL field at the conference's annual championship meet.
The EAGL Championships are set for Saturday, March 29, at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of West Virginia University, inside the WVU Coliseum. Other EAGL members competing include the host Mountaineers, George Washington, Maryland, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Pittsburgh.
The Scarlet Knights finished the 2008 regular season with a mark of 11-13-1 and are looking to build on a sixth-place showing at last season's championships. Rutgers posted a team score of 192.600 last March, as NC State took the event and West Virginia placed second. RU edged out UNH and Maryland and narrowly trailed GW's 192.775.
Against EAGL competitors this season, the Scarlet Knights are 0-8, including a pair of losses to West Virginia and New Hampshire during the regular season.
Rutgers has been without its top all-around competitor, Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) and standout bars competitor, Prishani Seebadri (Wenonah, N.J.) for the past month due to injury.
Most recently, Rutgers took fourth in a competitive four-team field at Penn State University on Friday, March 21. RU finished with a team score of 189.475, their third-highest team total of the season, to place behind leader and No. 14-ranked Nebraska (196.00), No. 22 Penn State (195.725), and EAGL rival Maryland (192.675).
The mark of 47.925 on vault tied the season-high set earlier in the year in the five-team meet at home, as junior Latara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) and freshman Nicole Rose (Maple Shade, N.J.) tied for 15th overall in the event, taking identical scores of 9.675.
