PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers gymnastics team will host its final home meet of the season this Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 1 p.m. against Towson at the Livingston Recreation Center in what will serve as Senior Day for the four seniors in the program.
The program will honor its four graduating seniors - Elizabeth Bohnsack (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, Pa.), Tiffany Schramm (Orange County, Calif.), and Jacquelyn Verdon (Freehold, N.J.) in a pre-meet ceremony.
The Scarlet Knights stand at 11-6-1 on the season, after taking second place last weekend in a tri-meet against Cornell and West Chester in Ithaca, N.Y. Rutgers' score of 187.800 placed them behind host Cornell (191.450) and in front of West Chester (168.125).
RU looks to improve its all-time record against Towson, which currently holds a 21-4 edge in the series between the teams.
Last season, Rutgers faced the Tigers twice, with Towson coming out on top both times. In a tri-meet on March 9, 2007, host Towson bested both Rutgers and Yale. At the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals April 19 in Seattle, Rutgers finished third with 189.950, while Towson won the event with a 194.475 to take the national title.
This season, the Tigers are 11-6, most recently notching a season-high in scoring with a 193.475 in a second-place finish on the road at Penn. Towson trailed only NC State.
In RU's last meet at Cornell, the Scarlet Knights were forced to compete without top all-arounder Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.), who withdrew due to injury. Junior Latara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) stepped up to replace Sevarino. Northcutt took first in the uneven bars with a season-high 9.775 and led the team in the floor exercises with 9.575, while taking second in the all-around with her overall score of 37.900.
