Rutgers Gymnastics Places Fourth At Temple Meet

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Rutgers gymnastics team placed fourth in a quad meet with Towson, Temple and Bridgeport Wednesday evening inside McGonigle Hall on the campus of Temple University. Towson captured first place with a 192.275, while Temple finished second with a 191.375, Bridgeport placed third with a 190.575 and the Scarlet Knights finished fourth with a 187.950.
Fresh off her second-place score of 9.725 in the floor exercise in Saturday's meet, freshman Danae Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) registered a career-best 9.750 to tie with Towson's Avis Hixon for second place in the event on Wednesday. Sophomore Kiah Banfield (Newbury Park, Calif.) wasn't far behind with a career-high tying score of 9.725 to place fourth in the event. Sophomore Nicole Rose (Maple Shade, N.J.) also contributed with a 9.650. The Scarlet Knights' score of 48.150 in the floor exercise was the top score of the event and the team's top score in nearly two years.
Johnson continued her strong performance on the beam where she posted a career-best score of 9.700 to tie with Bridgeport's Lorraine Galow for ninth place.
Senior Latara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) led RU on the vault with a score of 9.625 to tie with Towson's Kacey Catanzaro and Temple's Alexandra Uscatu for fifth place, while fellow senior Kristy Behr (Northport, N.Y.) led the Scarlet Knights with a 9.450 on bars.
Northcutt and sophomore Maddie Zwiebel (Bridgewater, N.J.) each competed in the all-around for the Scarlet Knights. Northcutt finished with a 36.675 to finish fourth, while Zwiebel, competing in the all-around for the first time in her career, posted a score of 27.475.
The Scarlet Knights return to action this Saturday, traveling to Morgantown, W. Va. for a quad meet with Maryland, George Washington and host West Virginia. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. SCORESHEET
