Rutgers Wrestling Defeats Brown 21-12

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Rutgers wrestling team (12-4, 5-1 EIWA) defeated conference foe Brown (2-5, 0-2 EIWA), 21-12, Friday night in Providence, R.I. With the win, head coach Scott Goodale picked up his 12th win of the season, surpassing last year's victory total of 11.
RU dropped the first two bouts of the match, as freshman Matt Fusco (Belleville, N.J.) fell 7-4 at 125 and sophomore Paul Grogan (Netcong, N.J.) dropped an 11-6 contest at 133. But the Scarlet Knights rattled off five consecutive wins, started by freshman Trevor Melde (Hewitt, N.J.), who won at 141, 5-4. At 149-pounds, redshirt sophomore David Greenwald (Union, N.J.) gave RU a lead it would not relinquish with his team leading 15th fall, pinning his opponent in 1:01.
Freshman Greg Zannetti (Edison, N.J.), wrestling at 157, earned a tough come-from-behind 7-6 win over Brown's Bryan Tracy, followed by consecutive decisions by seniors Matt Pletcher (Eastampton, N.J.) at 165 and Mike Whalen (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.) at 174. Sophomore McPaul Ogbonna (East Hanover, N.J.) dropped a close 5-4 decision at 184, redshirt junior Karim Mahmoud (Wallington, N.J.) picked up a 4-1 win at 197 and redshirt sophomore Sean DeDeyn (Bayville, N.J.) fell 2-0 in the heavyweight class to round out the scoring.
Rutgers returns to action on Sunday when it hosts a quad meet with Army, US Merchant Marine Academy and Boston University. The match is set to begin at noon at the College Ave. Gym.

Four of the top high school teams in the state (Queen of Peace, Howell, High Point and Long Branch) will wrestle at 3:00 p.m., followed by RU vs. Rider at 6:00 p.m.
