RU Wrestling Falls to No. 1 Iowa, Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Nov. 27, 2009) – The Rutgers wrestling team fell to defending NCAA Champion and No. 1 Iowa, 33-9, and EIWA foe Bucknell, 26-12, Friday night in Lewisburg, Pa. at Bucknell's Sojka Pavilion.
The Scarlet Knights (3-3, 0-1 EIWA) were only able to claim two matches against the Hawkeyes (7-0) and three against the Bison (3-3, 1-0 EIWA).
Redshirt junior Dominick Russo (Netcong, N.J,), ranked No. 10 nationally, won both of his matches by pin fall and both under two minutes to improve to 9-0 on the season. Six of Russo’s victories this season have come by pin fall.
Junior Billy Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.) picked up the biggest win of the night for Rutgers by knocking off No. 13 David Marble of Bucknell with an 8-3 score. Ashnault fell in his first match to No. 4 Daniel Dennis of Iowa by a technical fall score of 21-5 (7:00). Ashnault is now 8-2 on the season.
Sophomores Gregory Zannetti (Edison, N.J.) and Trevor Melde (Hewitt, N.J.) also picked up victories for Rutgers.
Rutgers will be back on the mat next Saturday when the squad battles Princeton and VMI in Princeton, N.J.
