Rutgers Gymnastics Places Fourth at Penn State Quad Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Rutgers gymnastics team posted a score of 187.525 to finish fourth in a quad meet at Penn State Saturday night. The Nittany Lions took first place with a score of 195.900, followed by New Hampshire with a 193.400, and Bridgeport's 189.475.
Freshmen Nicole Schwartz (Somerset, N.J.) and Danae Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) led the way for the Scarlet Knights at the meet. They posted top-ten scores on bars with marks of 9.650 and 9.600, respectively. Johnson earned the top mark for Rutgers in the floor exercise finishing in a tie for fifth with a 9.650. She also competed in the vault for the first time in her collegiate career with a score of 9.575, good for second among the Scarlet Knights.
Schwartz competed in the all-around for the Scarlet Knights, posting a season-high score of 37.975. She improved on her season average in every event with scores of 9.400 on the bars, 9.650 on the beam, 9.500 in the floor exercise, and 9.425 in the vault. Her career-high mark of 9.400 in the bars led the way for RU. It was her third straight meet to compete in the all-around.
Sophomore Kiah Banfield (Newbury Park, Calif.) contributed to the Scarlet Knights' success with her team-leading score of 9.650 on the vault. She also placed second among Scarlet Knight's in the floor exercise with a mark of 9.600, tying her for ninth overall in the event.
Senior Jessica Haddaway (Baltimore, Md.) had her best performance of the year, earning season-high marks on the bars and the beam. Her 9.350 on the bars earned her second among the Scarlet Knights in the event. The senior also posted 9.525 on the beam.
RU earned team totals of 47.150 on both the beam and the floor exercise, a 47.675 in the vault and a 45.550 on the bars.
Rutgers will meet Bridgeport next week, when the Scarlet Knights host a tri-meet against Bridgeport and Alaska at the Livingston Recreation Center on Saturday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. RESULTS
