Q&A with Laura Sevarino
Feb 04 | Women's Gymnastics
When did you first get started in gymnastics?
I started when I was 4. My grandmother took me to classes because she thought I had too much energy for my own good.
What got you interested in gymnastics?
I got put into classes and never wanted to try any other sports so I just stuck with it. I guess I just loved it from the start.
What is your favorite event and why?
It's hard to decide, because I don't dislike any of the events. I guess I would pick floor because I love performing and tumbling.
What has been your favorite thing about the Rutgers program so far?
I love being a part of the Rutgers team. It is such a supportive group of girls and coaches that help to keep the sport fun but still push me to be my best. I couldn't ask for a better team.
What made you decide to come to Rutgers?
I loved the team atmosphere and the strength of the gymnastics program. Academics were also a very important part of my decision, and Rutgers has a great name for academics as well.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of gymnastics?
I love to travel, especially to warm places. I also love to shop and spend time with friends and family.
If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be and why?
I really can't choose! Anyone who is interesting or inspiring would be fun to meet.
What is something interesting that most people don't know about you?
I hate all regular seafood and fish, but I love sushi. I know, I'm weird.
What is your major and what is your desired profession upon graduation?
I'm an exercise science and sports studies major, and I plan on going to medical school and pursuing a career in medicine after I graduate.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I will most likely still be in medical school, hopefully with a better idea of what area of medicine I would like to go into. Above all, I just hope to be content and enjoying life.
