Six Rutgers Gymnasts Named Scholastic All-Americans

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Six members of the Rutgers women’s gymnastics team were named Scholastic All-Americans by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W), the group announced.
Graduating seniors Kristy Behr (Northport, N.Y.) (3.88 GPA in history and political science), Jessica Haddaway (Baltimore, Md.) (3.94 GPA in communication) and Alison Hartwig (Wayne, N.J.) (3.93 GPA in psychology and sociology) were joined by rising senior Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) (3.60 GPA in exercise science and sports studies), rising junior Brooke Schwamburger (Powell, Ohio) (3.90 GPA in education) and rising sophomore Jessica Kerley (Maplewood, N.J.) (3.61 GPA while not declaring a specific major) with the honorable academic distinction.
To earn All-America recognition, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher in the past academic year. A total of 67 student-athletes earned 4.0 GPAs for the 2009 academic year and 428 earned Scholastic All America status.
The Rutgers women’s gymnastics program has enjoyed long-standing academic success under the direction of 23-year head coach Chrystal Chollet-Norton, with numerous student-athletes recognized each year for their academic prowess. This past season, 14 Scarlet Knights were named to the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) All-Academic Team.
The NACGC/W is the national association for women’s collegiate gymnastics coaches. The association seeks to actively manage and develop the sport of women’s gymnastics at the collegiate level and works with the NCAA and USA Gymnastics in order to provide the best possible experience for student-athletes.
