Rutgers Wrestling Prepares for Oklahoma Gold Tournament

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 12, 2010) – Coming off a weekend which saw them sweep a pair of duals with Sacred Heart and East Stroudsburg by a combined score of 88-6, the 23rd-ranked Rutgers wrestling team is preparing for the 12thannual Oklahoma Gold Tournament in Brockport, N.Y.
Teams joining the Scarlet Knights at this year's tournament include the College at Brockport, No. 9 Oklahoma University, No. 21 American University, Maryland, Army, University of Buffalo and Clarion University.
Last season at the Oklahoma Gold Tournament, RU finished in third place out of eight teams behind No. 18 Oklahoma and No. 3 Ohio State. Additionally, heavyweight DJ Russo (Netcong, N.J.) won the 285-pound bracket recording four victories by pin fall.
RU will send 18 wrestlers to Brockport this season, including a group of student-athletes-Nick Visicaro (Long Branch, N.J.), Evan Brewer (Flemington, N.J.), Joe Mcauley (Hewitt, N.J.) and Carl Buchholz (Malvern, Pa.)-who will each be competing for the first time in a Scarlet Knight singlet.
Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will run continuous to the end of the championship matches.
