
Rutgers Wrestling Places Second at Oklahoma Gold Tournament

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (November 13, 2010) - The Rutgers wrestling team put forth a strong performance en route to finishing second at the 12thannual Oklahoma Gold Tournament in Brockport, N.Y. The Scarlet Knights were led by senior heavyweight DJ Russo (Netcong, N.J.) who captured the bracket title for his weight class for a second-consecutive season.
No. 9 Oklahoma took the tournament title with a team score of 145.5. They were followed by RU (124.5), Maryland (101.5), Clarion (95), Buffalo (89), Army (75), American (68) and Brockport (17).
Russo secured his second-consecutive Oklahoma Gold title in dominating fashion recording three falls on his way to the finals, where he picked up an 8-1 decision over Quintas McCorkie of Clarion. For his efforts, Russo took home the aggregate pin title for the second-consecutive season.
In addition to Russo capturing his bracket's title, RU also had five student-athletes - Scott Winston (165), Alex Caruso (174), Dan Rinaldi (184), Matt Fusco (125) and Daryl Cocozzo (157) - place in top-3 of their respective weight classes.
In addition to his third place finish in the 157-pound bracket, Cocozzo also took home the tournament's fastest pin award. Cocozzo recorded a pin just 34 seconds into his first match of the tournament against Maryland's Danny Orem.
The Scarlet Knights return to the Empire State next weekend when they travel to Binghamton for dual matchups with No. 7 Penn State and West Virginia. RESULTS
