Rutgers Wrestling Closes Out 2010 at Midlands Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 28, 2010) - The No. 9 Rutgers wrestling team will close out 2010 at the 48thMidlands Championships on Wednesday, Dec. 29, and Thursday, Dec. 30 in Evanston, Ill. at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The tournament, which features many of the top teams in the nation, will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT tomorrow.
The 48th edition of Midlands features one of the top fields in the country as eight teams among InterMat's top 15 tournament rankings will be in attendance. Additionally, the field at this year's Midlands boasts 97 nationally ranked competitors, including four ranked No. 1 in the country at their weight class and five more ranked No. 2. Final seeds for the tournament will be determined Tuesday evening.
Last week, the 2010 Midlands Tournament Committee announced the top contenders for the championships and several Scarlet Knights were picked to be among the placewinners including No. 3 heavyweight DJ Russo (Netcong, N.J.), No. 5 149 pounder Mario Mason (Moorestown, N.J.) and No. 8 165 pounder Scott Winston (Jackson, N.J).
