Rutgers Gymnastics Places Third In Quad Meet At Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pa. (February 5, 2010) – The Rutgers gymnastics team scored a 189.300 to place third in a quad meet at Pittsburgh inside Fitzgerald Field House Friday evening. The host Panthers took top honors in the meet with a 195.175, while No. 13 Iowa State was second with a 195.125. The Scarlet Knights were third with Brockport finishing fourth with a 188.350.
Senior Prishani Seebadri (Wenonah, N.J.) made her return to competition on Friday after missing nearly a year while recovering from knee surgery. The bars standout last competed on Feb. 7 of last year prior to the injury. She led the Scarlet Knights in the event with a 9.650 to place 10th overall. Jacquelyn Holmes of Iowa State won the event with a 9.825.
Senior Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Kiah Banfield (Newburgh Park, Calif.) tied for eighth to lead RU in the floor exercise with a 9.725. The score tied a season-best for Sevarino. Pittsburgh’s Alicia Talucci posted a 9.850 to take top honors in the event.
Sevarino paced the Scarlet Knights on the vault with a season-high 9.725 to place 10th overall in the event. Freshman Jenna Zito (Rockaway, N.J.) was 13th with a 9.700, while sophomore Danae Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) posted a season-best 9.650 to place 14th, while freshman Nicole Romano (Livingston, N.J.) scored a career-best 9.625 in the event to place 15th. Iowa State’s Shea Anderson took top honors in the event with a 9.850.
Zito led all Scarlet Knights with a 9.650 on the balance beam to place 12th, while Leigh Heinbaugh (Sicklerville, N.J.) recorded a 9.550 to place 16th. Ceilia Maccani of Iowa State won the event with a 9.850.
Zito’s 38.350 in the all-around placed her fourth overall. Talucci of Pitt posted a 39.200 to win the all-around.
Rutgers returns to action next Saturday against Cortland, Brockport and Ursinus inside the Livingston Recreation Center at 1:00 p.m.
