Rutgers Gymnasts Finish Eighth At EAGL Championship

DURHAM, N.H. (March 27, 2010) – The Rutgers gymnastics team posted a 187.650 to place eighth at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship, hosted by the University of New Hampshire, Saturday afternoon inside Lundholm Gymnasium.
North Carolina won the eight-team championship with a score of 196.025, while NC State was second with a score of 195.700. West Virginia (195.075) was third, New Hampshire (194.700) was fourth, Pittsburgh (194.350) was fifth, Maryland (194.050) was sixth and George Washington (193.575) finished seventh.
Senior Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Scarlet Knights and tied her career-high on the vault with a score of 9.800 to tie for 14th overall in RU’s strongest event of the day. Freshman Jenna Zito (Rockaway, N.J.) posted a 9.725 to tie for 31st, while senior Alyssa Lewandowski (Linden, N.J.) scored a 9.675 and freshman Nicole Romano (Livingston, N.J.) tallied a 9.650 in the event. Rutgers scored a 48.300 in the event.
Sevarino and junior Kiah Banfield (Newbury Park, Calif.) paced the Scarlet Knights in the floor exercise with identical scores of 9.700 to tie for 30th. Zito was right behind with a 9.625, while Lewandowski scored a 9.500. As a Team, RU posted a 47.325 in the event.
Senior Prishani Seebadri (Wenonah, N.J.) scored a season-high score of 9.775 on the bars to pace RU and tie for 19th overall. The Scarlet Knights scored a 46.700 in the event.
Freshman Emma-Rose Trentacosti (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) posted a score of 9.300 on the balance beam to lead RU and place 37th overall in the event, while Sevarino was right behind with a 9.200. Rutgers posted a score of 45.325 in the event.
