
Rutgers Gymnastics Completes Recruiting Class

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Aug. 10, 2010) – Rutgers head women’s gymnastics coach Chrystal Chollet-Norton announced the addition of Danielle D’Elia (Colts Neck, N.J.), Alexis Gunzelman (Tabernacle, N.J.), Alexandria Ivol (Woolwich Twp., N.J.) and Holly Murray (Harrisburg, Pa.) to the program’s recruiting class. All four gymnasts have accepted admission to Rutgers and will join the Scarlet Knights this fall.
D’Elia, who graduated Freehold Regional High School in 2008, comes to Rutgers after transferring from Central Michigan University. She has three years of eligibility remaining. She scored a 9.8 on the floor exercise at the NCAA Northeast Regional in 2009 with the Chippewas. D’Elia was a member of the USA Gymnastics Club Galaxy Gymnastics in New Jersey before attending Central Michigan.
“Danielle is transferring from Central Michigan to be closer to home,” said Chollet-Norton. “She is another outstanding New Jersey gymnast who will help take our program to the next level.”
Gunzelman placed sixth on the bars and ninth in the all around at the 2010 Region 7 championships. She took top honors on the bars at the 2010 New Jersey state championships as a senior at Seneca High School. She also placed fourth in the floor exercise and all-around and sixth on the vault at the event. Gunzelman, who attended the USA Gymnastics Club Envision Gymnastics, placed second on the bars and fourth in the all-around at the National Championships.
“Alexis brings a lot of experience as well, competing at the national level,” said Chollet-Norton. “She is an outstanding uneven bar worker who will have a major impact for us on our beam team. She will help to add additional depth in this event.”
Ivol, who graduated from Kingsway Regional High School in Woolwich Township, was a member of the USA Gymnastics Club Atlantic Coast Gymnastics. She placed fourth on the bars at the Regional 7 Championships. Ivol placed third on the bars and fifth in the floor exercise at the 2010 New Jersey state championships.
“Alexandria is another strong New Jersey gymnast who will bring regional and state competition experience to the team this fall,” said Chollet-Norton. She is also a great uneven bar worker who will help the program greatly.”
Murray attended Dauphin County Technical School and was a member of the Artistic Sports Academy Plus club team. She was a 2010 National Qualifier after taking home top honors in the floor exercise. She was a 2009 Eastern National Qualifier after placing fourth in the event last season. Murray also captured the state championship on the bars and in the floor exercise and placed third in the all-around in 2010. She is a Region 7 champion in the balance beam and floor exercise.
“As a late addition to our incoming class we are excited to have Holly on board,” said Chollet-Norton. “She is an outstanding balance beam and floor exercise competitor who will help to round out our incoming class.”
The quartet will join Luisa Leal (Cali, Colombia) and Alyssa Straub (Nazareth, Pa.), who signed National Letters of Intent with the gymnastics program.
