ScarletKnights.com is pleased to announce a new weekly column dedicated to the wrestling program called Weekly Weigh-Ins. Each week leading up to the Scarlet vs. Black intersquad dual (Tuesday, Nov. 2), ScarletKnights.com will sit down with coaches and student-athletes for exclusive features and Q&A's. Additionally, Weekly Weigh-Ins will post exclusive video content to the RU wrestling social media pages of Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=117162087457) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/ruwrestling). .
For this week's Weekly Weigh-In, ScarletKnights.com sat down with the RU 157-pound senior Daryl Cocozzo to discuss the first few weeks of practice, having the NCAAs in Philadelphia and mentoring the younger 157 pounders.
ScarletKnights.com:
Daryl, you've been in practice for a couple of weeks now how is the team looking?
Daryl Cocozzo:
We're looking good. We're wrestling hard, training hard, running a lot, lifting a lot; doing all the right things so we're looking good.
ScarletKnights.com:
You're one of the nine guys who have prior NCAA experience. How much does that motivate you to get that All-America and National Championship level?
Daryl Cocozzo:
I've been there three times already as a three-time national qualifier. I only have one more year so I'm ready to do it.
ScarletKnights.com:
Last year was your first year wrestling at 157. Can you say that now, with a year under your belt, that you have more confidence going into this season?
Daryl Cocozzo:
Definitely, I put on a little more weight and a little more muscle and with that, I think that it's definitely going to be different this year.
ScarletKnights.com:
You're a Jersey guy. With NCAAs being in Philadelphia, is that an extra motivation for you and the team?
Daryl Cocozzo:
That's huge. NCAAs have always been on the west side of the United States and now it's on the east coast. My family is going to be there, I'm sure everybody's families are going to be there and we're going to have a lot of support.
ScarletKnights.com:
You're a veteran at 157. Most of the other guys at 157 are freshmen and sophomores. Have you been taking them under your wing and teaching them things to help build the program for years to come?
Daryl Cocozzo:
Yeah, for sure. I have a lot of experience, so I show them what I can. I try to teach them how to work hard, how to train and hopefully they can take it in and it'll be good for them down the road.
