Gymnastics Names Two Captains

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 15, 2014) - Rutgers gymnastics head coach Louis Levine announced that Emma Hoffman (Union, N.J.) and Luisa Leal (Cali, Colombia) will serve as captains for the 2015 campaign. The seniors will lead the Scarlet Knights during their first season as members of the Big Ten Conference.
"They're both people that the girls look up to both in and out of the gym," Levine said. "They understand what the program is looking for and the expectations. When there is someone who has to say something that some people don't want to hear, they're willing to step up and stand up for what they know we're looking for."
Now a two-time captain, Leal was named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) First Team All-Vault and Second Team All-Uneven Bars last season. She was named to the Big Ten Gymnasts Watch List recently, as she is now in her fifth year in the program. The all-arounder collected the 100 Percent Award at the team banquet last year for hitting all of her routines at 9.700 or better on vault and reached 9.900 a combined four times between vault and floor.
Hoffman earned EAGL First Team All-Uneven Bars honors with a 9.800 RQS, helping Rutgers qualify for the 2014 NCAA Regionals. The senior posted at least a 9.800 four times last season, including a career-high score of 9.850 against Brown on Jan. 24 at the Livingston Recreation Center. That performance earned her EAGL Specialist of the Week.
Rutgers will open its 2015 season Jan. 10 in a quad meet at Penn State.
