PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Senior Paige Senatore (Delsea, N.J.), the two-time Metropolitan Champion, was named the Big Ten Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday by the league office.
Senatore and the Rutgers women's cross country team brought home the Metropolitan Cross Country championship title for the second consecutive year last Friday. The Scarlet Knights won the 2015 team championship with three top 10 placements led by Senatore's first place finish.
The senior Scarlet Knight knocked 14 seconds off last year's championship performance in claiming first place at Mets for the second straight season. Senatore completed the 5K course at Van Cortland Park in 18:05.2, besting her time of 18:19.4 from last year. She held a 28.2 second margin of victory and averaged a 5:48.9 mile.
A member of the Rutgers women's cross country team has won the Metropolitan Championship individual title 13 times since 1993 and Senatore becomes the fourth Scarlet Knight to repeat as an individual champion.
This is Senatore's second career weekly honor from the Big Ten Conference. She was named Big Ten Runner of the Week after last season's Metropolitan Championship performance.
