PRINCETON, N.J. - Rutgers women's golf placed fourth with a 633 (315-318) total at the Princeton Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday in wet and windy conditions at Springdale Golf Club. Sophomore co-captain Emily Mills (Colts Neck, N.J.) had another strong performance to pace the Scarlet Knights, carding a 155 (79-76) to finish tied for eighth in the 79-player field.
"Emily put together a good round today to lead the team," said Rutgers head coach Kari Williams. "Our fourth place finish in the all-Northeast field was a good showing in very tough conditions. We were in the mix and I think we learned a lot from this event to take with us to finish up the fall season at our home event in two weeks."
Seniors Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Christina Paulsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) also performed well to place among the top 20 competitors. Sacheli finished tied for 16th with a 157 (78-79) and Paulsen placed tied for 20th with a 160 (78-82).
Sophomore Tatum Jackson (Mountain Brook, Ala.) and senior co-captain Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) rounded-out the team scorecard on the par 72, 6,100-yard course. Jackson placed tied for 27th with a 162 (80-82) and Zurick finished tied for 51st with a 167 (86-81).
The 15-team event was originally slated for 54 holes, but was shortened to 36 due to poor weather conditions.
Harvard mounted a second-round charge to overtake first-round leader Princeton by one stroke and win the Invitational with a 616 (318-298). The Tigers led by six shots over Columbia after Saturday's first round, but while the Tigers added six shots to their Saturday total in Sunday's final round, Harvard cut 20 shots off its first-round total to break a fourth-place tie with Yale and climb over RU, Columbia and the Tigers to win the title.
Individually, Georgetown's Jacquelyn Eleey cut three shots off her Saturday total to climb from fifth to first and win medalist honors with a five-over 149 (76-73), three shots better than Princeton's Tenley Shield and Harvard's Courtney Hooton.
