PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's cross country team will head to Van Cortland Park on Friday to defend its Metropolitan Championship title.
Last season, RU captured the title as five Scarlet Knights placed in the top 10 and eight runners posted top 20 times in the field. Rutgers brought home its first Metropolitan Championship title since 1997 and dethroned 16-time defending champion, Columbia.
Paige Senatore (Delsea, N.J.), making her final appearance at the Metropolitan Championships, brought home the individual title a year ago, becoming the 10th Scarlet Knight to take first at the meet since 1993. Senatore won the race in a time of 18:19.4.
Senatore has been RU's top finisher in the team's two competitions to date. Most recently, she took eighth on the 6K Paul Short Invitational course (20:44) and also won the Monmouth Invitational title to open the season (18:07.8).
Current Scarlet Knight sophomore Alexandra Juzwiak (North Middletown, N.J.) also helped to pace Rutgers with a 10th place finish in 19:02.3 at the Metropolitan Championships last season.
Following this weekend's Metropolitan Championships, the Rutgers women's cross country team will gear up for the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17 before heading to the 2015 Big Ten Cross Country Championships in Chicago on Sunday, Nov. 1.
