PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's cross country team produced a second-place finish Saturday afternoon at the IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The team time of 2:12.16 marked the best result for the Scarlet Knights at the event in more than 15 years.
"Our guys competed very well today," said head coach Mike Mulqueen "To place second, and to have all eight runners run their personal best on that course is a great accomplishment. It was great for our two seniors to finish this way. I was very proud of the whole team."
For their efforts during the race, freshman Conor Murphy (Millstone, N.J.), senior Jaimin Vekaria (Clinton, N.J.) and sophomore Trent Brinkofski (Somerset, N.J.) were all named to the All East University Division cross country team.
Northeastern captured the team title with a total time of 2:11.13, while Marist finished third behind the Scarlet Knights with a mark of 2:12.40.
For the third consecutive race, Murphy led the Scarlet Knights, pacing the team with a time of 26.07.4, good for 10th place out of 183 competitors. Vekaria was the second finisher for RU with a 13th-place time of 26:09.3. Brinkofski also finished with the top-20, coming in 16th place with a time of 26:15.8.
Freshman Dominick Munson (Erial, N.J.) and senior Anthony Horton (Moorestown, N.J.) finished within a second of each other, placing 37th and 38th, respectively. Junior Nicholas Price (Old Bridge, N.J.) placed 68th with a time of 5:27.9, while sophomore Luke Wiley (Williamstown, N.J.) and freshman Kian Jackson (Plainsboro, N.J.) contributed times of 27:26.0 and 28:37.9, respectively.
The race concludes the Scarlet Knight's 2015 cross country season, with many of the athletes set to compete during the indoor track season, which begins Jan. 8 at the Rutgers Invitational.
