Allyson Black Named Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Allyson Black (Denville, N.J.), Rutgers' top finisher at the 2015 Big Ten Women's Cross Country Championships, was named one of the 14 Sportsmanship Award honorees by the conference office, it was announced on Wednesday.
The Big Ten Sportsmanship award winners are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Black led the Scarlet Knights with a 16th place finish at the conference championships at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course in Chicago last Sunday, giving Rutgers its best individual finish since joining the league. Black crossed the finish line in a time of 20:30.6, besting her previous top 6K time of 21:45.7, which she captured at the Princeton Invitational in mid-October.
During the season, Black helped lead the Scarlet Knights to titles at the Metropolitan Championships and Monmouth Invitational. She was third at both the Metropolitan Championships (18:43.9) and Monmouth Invite (18:49.3).
The Rutgers women's cross country team returns at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. The regional will be held on Friday, Nov. 13 at the West Windsor Fields in Princeton, N.J.
