Pagano Captures Runner-Up Finish at Cleveland State Open

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers wrestling redshirt sophomore Jordan Pagano finished as the runner-up competing unattached Saturday at the Cleveland State Open, going 4-1 with three falls and a major decision in the 174-pound bracket. Pagano's run at a title fell short in the final against Penn State's Mark Hall, who defeated the Scarlet Knight, 11-3.

The strong tournament showing improved Pagano's record to 11-4 on the season and gave him his second runner-up finish of the year. The South Brunswick, New Jersey, native, RU's leader with five pins, also finished second at the East Stroudsburg Open to kick off the 2016-17 slate.
Rutgers (6-1) is ranked No. 11 in the most recent USA Today/ NWCA Division I Coaches Poll and returns to the mat as a team at the prestigious Ken Kraft Midlands Championships from Dec. 29-30, hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois.
The 54th annual installment of the tournament includes a host of Big Ten and nationally ranked competition, including No. 3 Iowa, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 9 Lehigh, No. 10 North Carolina State, No. 12 Illinois, No. 14 Michigan, No. 15 Central Michigan, No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 19 Arizona State, No. 20 South Dakota State, and No. 23 Pittsburgh.
