PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 6, 2017) – The Big Ten Conference recognized nine Rutgers men's cross country student-athletes on the Fall 2017 Academic All-Big Ten list, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
"This is a great accomplishment for them," said head coach Mike Mulqueen. "It is a result of their hard work and their wanting to be the best student-athletes that they can be at Rutgers. It is a great reflection on the work of our academic advisor, Monique Brown, and the importance that the athletic department puts on the academic success of their athletes. I am very proud of them."
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of November 1 for fall sports, who have been enrolled fulltime at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
Seniors Trent Brinkofski, Alexander Livernois and Luke Wiley highlight the list by completing the clean sweep, achieving Academic All-Big Ten in all three fall seasons in which they were eligible. Juniors Ryan Gross, Dom Munson and Conor Murphy make their first appearances on the honor roll, along with sophomores Andrew Comito, Sean Martinek and Cole Pschunder in their first eligible season.
The Scarlet Knights won two team titles this season, including its first Metropolitan Championships since 1986. RU capped championship season by taking 13th of 26 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional and 4th of 25 at the IC4A Championships.
