Women's X/C Unveils 2017 Schedule
Aug 07 | Women's Cross Country
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's cross country team's 2017 schedule was unveiled on Monday with the Scarlet Knights racing in three events in September before the championship season, featuring the Metropolitan and Big Ten Championships along with the NCAA Regional, gets underway.
"Each year the coaching staff is trying to prepare our student-athletes for the highest level of competition," said head coach James Robinson. "We believe this year's competition schedule will achieve that end. The student-athletes will face a plethora of national class talent from week to week in an effort to enhance their own performances. It will be extremely challenging and we're set to go."
The season opens with the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Friday, Sept. 1. The Scarlet Knights resume racing on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College and return to Bethlehem for their annual appearance at the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, Sept. 29.
The championship portion of the 2017 schedule begins with the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, Oct. 13. RU finished third a year ago in an event where a member of the Rutgers women's cross country team has won the individual title 13 times since 1993 and earned the team title in two of the last three seasons. Returning Scarlet Knight Alexandra Juzwiak was the squad's top finisher with a 10th place performance last year.
The Big Ten Championship, hosted this season by Indiana, takes place on Sunday, Oct. 29, while the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania gets underway on Friday, Nov. 10.
