Women Place Third at Annual Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY – Women's golf placed third with a 914 (304-308-302) total at the annual Rutgers Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Redshirt junior Ashleigh Greenham finished tied for second in the 65-player field with a 224 (77-76-71) to pace five Scarlet Knights among the top 15.
Greenham was minus two in par five scoring and minus one in par three scoring, with four birdies. The co-captain's efforts contributed to the home squad counting 11 birdies and 54 pars on the par 72, 6,050-yard course.
True freshman Harriet Allsebrook, playing her first collegiate event, placed tied for eighth with a 229 (77-76-76). She was even on par three holes and counted four birdies.
"I'm pleased with the way everyone competed in our first event of the season," said Rutgers head coach Kari Williams. "We've made great progress from last spring. Our freshmen have made an immediate impact, with Harriett playing well all weekend. They have changed the dynamic, with all eight of our players able to qualify and make an impact in the lineup."
Seniors Emily Mills and Tatum Jackson also placed among the top 15 in their final Rutgers Invitational. Mills, who won the event as a junior, registered 13 pars and tied for 12th with a 230 (76-77-77). Jackson finished 15th with a 231 (74-79-78) and was even in par five scoring with 11 pars.
Sophomore Carrie-Ann Lee rounded-out the RU scorecard. She shot a 236 (77-81-78) to place tied for 22nd, while finishing one-under on par fives.
Sophomore Ana Maria Cortes and freshman Lori Char, competing as individuals, also performed well, as all RU entries were among the top 25. Cortes (74-79-84) and Char (79-82-76) both tied for 24th.
Georgetown captured the 11-team Invitational title with a 909 (306-304-299), besting second place Delaware (307-305-299=911) by two strokes. The Hoyas were paced by Alexa Popowitz, who earned individualist medalist honors by five strokes with a three-over par 219 (69-76-74).
The Scarlet Knights return to the links at the Sunflower Invitational, hosted by Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas, Sept. 17-19.
"We are looking forward to a great week of practice before heading to Kansas State," Williams added. "The field will be very competitive and a great test for our program."
