Women’s Golf Tied for Third at River Landing
Mar 04 | Women's Golf
WALLACE, N.C. – Women's golf is tied for third at plus-15 after day one of the 15-team River Landing Classic, played Monday on the par 72, 6,026-yard River Course. Graduate co-captain Ashleigh Greenham carded a one-under par 71 over the initial 18 holes and is tied for second in the 89-player field entering the second round.
"I felt confident on the course today and was able to take advantage of a few close approaches," said Greenham. "I rolled the ball well on the greens and hope to keep the momentum going into tomorrow."
Two rounds of the tournament were slated for Monday, but the latter was halted due to darkness. The remainder of the second round, as well as the final 18 holes, will be contested on Tuesday in the 54-hole event. Four Scarlet Knights have two holes to go, and another three, before beginning their final rounds.
Sophomore Harriet Allsebrook and freshman Maeve Rossi also had strong opening rounds to join Greenham in the top 20. Allsebrook, playing in first position, shot 73 and Rossi, competing in second position, tallied a 74.
Juniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes rounded-out the RU scorecard. Lee shot 78 and Cortes 82 in the initial round. Both are plus two in the second round with two holes remaining.
"We put ourselves in a good position after round one with strong play from Ash, Harriet, and Maeve," said Rutgers head coach Kari Williams. "Ana and Carrie-Ann bounced back in the afternoon with more consistent play for us. It was great to have everyone competing and scoring for us out there and we look to maintain that over the last round."
Sophomore Lori Char, competing individually, is tied for 54th with a 78 after the initial 18.
Rutgers is tied with Memphis, while Big Ten rival and No. 41-ranked Penn State is seventh and Seton Hall tied for 12th. 28th-ranked Campbell is in first place at plus-five.
