Oct 11 | Women's Golf
PORT CLINTON, Ohio (October 11, 2022) – Rutgers women's golf took home the team title at the Rocket Classic on Tuesday afternoon, winning by 13 strokes in wire-to-wire fashion against the 11-team field.
"I am really proud of this team for earning their first win together," head coach Kari Williams said. "Course conditions were tough with the winds being between 10 and 15 mph all day, and the greens were firm and fast. As a coach, it was incredible to have three players battling for the title all day and it's great to see how far we have come as a team. We will enjoy this performance and head home with almost two weeks to practice and prepare for our final event of the fall season."
Rikke Nordvik won the individual title with a 6-over 222 (73-75-74), the first victory of her Scarlet Knight career. Rutgers dominated the individual leaderboard, with Leigha Devine finishing 2nd with a 7-over 223 (74-72-77) and Maeve Rossi finishing 3rd with a 10-over 226 (77-75-74).
"Today's conditions were challenging but I played smart and limited my mistakes," Nordvik said. "My ball-striking was good and I was able to put it close on my approaches. It was great to put together a strong event as a team and we are proud to come home with the win."
As a team, RU shot a 910 (305-299-306) at Catawba Island Club to secure the first team title since March of 2019 when the Scarlet Knights won the Juli Inkster Invitational.
