Scarlet Knights will make a sixth consecutive appearance at the national regatta
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 7 Rutgers rowing has earned a berth into the 2025 NCAA Championships, marking a sixth consecutive trip to the national regatta for the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers claimed one of 11 at-large bids to compete in the 22-team field on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey from May 30 - June 1.
The Scarlet Knights will send their Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and Varsity 4 boats to the NCAA Championships. Racing begins on Friday from with flighted heats in the three events. Semifinals are slated for Saturday before the competition wraps up with championship finals on Sunday and an award ceremony.
Rutgers scored its best Big Ten Championships result in team history with a second-place team finish on Sunday at Eagle Creek Park. The Scarlet Knights earned a medal in all seven races while compiling 239 points, led by six silver medals by the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity 4, 2nd Varsity 4, 3rd Varsity 4, and 3rd Varsity 8.
The Scarlet Knights placed 14th in the country at the 2024 NCAA Championships after their fifth straight year qualifying for the national regatta. The highlight of the championships was their 10th-place finish by the Varsity 4 boat, followed by a 14th-place for the 2nd Varsity 8 and 15th for the Varsity 8 on Harsha Lake in Ohio. Women's rowing gained a total of 55 points over the championship weekend, showing an increase from the previous year's team finish.
The RU Varsity 8 will be coxed by Victoria Grieder, a two-time member of the CRCA Athletes to Watch, and rowed by All-Big Ten First Team award winners Hannah Heideveld, Lily Wood, and Lauren Andersen, along All-Big Ten Second Team honorees Chiara Saccomando and Elli Arbogast.
RU finished 15th at the 2023 NCAA Championships,13th in 2022, seventh in 2021, and 11th in 2019.
