Trio Recognized As Honorable Mention
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The first of three postseason All-American teams was published by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Rutgers men's lacrosse saw three student-athletes selected as Honorable Mention All-Americans: Cardin Stoller, Ryan Splaine and Joe Juengerkes. All three earned the first All-American recognition of their careers.
Stoller excelled as the Scarlet Knights goalkeeper this season. Previously tabbed as the First Team All-Big Ten, he was in the top-12 nationally this season in both goals-against-average (8.85) and save percentage (56.7%). He made 182 saves, third in the league in saves per game. The Owing Mills, Md. native, was on the Tewaaraton Award's Top 25 Watch List, had 12 double-digit save games. For his 30 game career, he has 286 stops.
Splaine was a dynamic presence for RU as a long-stick midfielder and was a Second Team All-Big Ten Selection. A Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and USILA Team of the Week selection, the Rockville, Md. native had 49 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. He was 10th in the Big Ten in ground balls per game and caused turnovers per game. Also, the junior scored three goals.
Juengerkes made an instant impact at RU in his first season with the program following a transfer from Princeton. Named a team captain ahead of his first season on the field in a Scarlet Knights uniform, the Islip, N.Y. native was named Second Team All-Big Ten. A two-time selection to the USILA Team of the Week. The short-stick defensive midfielder had seven goals, four assists, 55 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers
All three RU All-Americans were on the defensive end of the field. Behind their efforts, Rutgers defense was seventh nationally in scoring defense at 8.88 goals allowed per game. That was the lowest goals per game allowed by Rutgers since 2011, and their best national ranking in scoring defense over that span. RU did not allow more than 13 goals in any game, which included starting the season with five straight games holding the opponent to single digits and held two Big Ten foes under nine goals. RU caused 136 turnovers, the most per game since 2017 for the program, and opponents averaged 19.5 turnovers per game, the most for RU opponents in the Big Ten era.
