Oct 19 | Women's Golf
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Junior Joline Truong sits within the top 10 after the opening day of the Route 66 Invitational honoring Dale McNamara, held on Monday at The Golf Club of Oklahoma. Truong fired off a 2-under-par 70 in the second round to highlight action for Rutgers women's golf in their final team event of the fall.
Truong moved up 19 spots on the leaderboard during the afternoon session, with her 2-under-par 70 putting her in a tie for ninth. Truong is just five strokes behind tournament leaders Anna Brehm (Coastal Carolina) and Zoe Shamy (Tulsa), who sit at three under heading into Tuesday's final round, which begins at 9:30 a.m. ET.
As a team, the Scarlet Knights are fifth in the 16-team field with a 22-over-par 598 (305-293). Truong (-2), junior Judy Amano (E) and senior Lorena Rossettin (+1) all contributed low scores in the second round to help RU move up two spots on the team leaderboard and post the fourth-lowest second-round team score of the tournament.
"We did a good job bouncing back in the afternoon round," said head coach Kari Williams. "This course has a handful of scoring opportunities that we need to keep taking advantage of. Our biggest challenge is cleaning up our mistakes and not letting holes get away from us. For the final round, we need to play smart and come out from the first shot ready to compete hard."
Tulsa leads the field with a 1-over-par 577, followed by Georgia Southern (+9) and Coastal Carolina (+12).
Five Scarlet Knights combined for 20 birdies across the two rounds, led by Truong's seven - tied for sixth-most in the field. Rossettin added five, Amano and senior Emily James pitched in three apiece, and redshirt senior Grace Lu contributed two.
