PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Rutgers swimmer Florence Robitaille was named the Big Ten Swimming Freshman of the Week following her performance in the Scarlet Knights' tri-meet victory over Liberty and James Madison on the road last weekend.
Florence Robitaille had five overall top-two finishes in the victories for RU. Her top swim came in the 200 Backstroke, as she took first place with a time of 2:00.39. Robitaille also swam the leadoff leg of the 400 Medley Relay, with RU winning the event at 3:44.85.
The native of Longueuil, Quebec had three second place finishes individually. She placed second in the 100 Backstroke in 55.67. She also competed in the IM for the first time as a collegian, placing second in the 200 and 400 IM.
It has been a strong start to the freshman campaign for a member of a highly regarded newcomer class of Scarlet Knights. She also had a victory in the 200 backstroke and two additional top-3 finishes as RU had a strong performance to open the year the week prior at the Rutgers Invitational.
This is the seventh straight year that RU has captured a Big Ten Freshman of the Week award. Current team members Emilianna Gonzalez and Bailee Sturgill captured one in each of the past two seasons.
The Scarlet Knights are off this weekend. The team is back in action on Friday, Oct. 30 as the team hosts Princeton at 6 pm in the Battle for the Cannon Trophy.
