GLENDALE, Calif. – Rutgers women's golf wrapped up the opening round of the Big Ten Championships on Friday in Glendale, California. With the 18-team field featuring nine top-50 programs, the Scarlet Knights are 16th with two rounds left to play at the Oakmont Country Club.
No. 2 USC leads the field with a three-under-par 277, followed by No. 50 Illinois (+2) and No. 32 Ohio State (+2). Illinois' Anna Ritter is atop the individual leaderboard with a five-under-par 65 in the opening round.
RU tees off tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. ET from the 10th hole to open the second round. Rutgers will be paired with Nebraska and Wisconsin during Saturday action.
"We struggled today to execute our game plan," said head coach Kari Williams. "This is a championship-level course and setup, and this field is the most competitive we've seen all year. I know we can manage ourselves better and make fewer mistakes out here. We need to come out tomorrow and fight for every stroke because there is a lot of golf left to play over the next two days."
Day One – Friday, April 24
Weather: Sunny, Temps in the low-70s, 5-10 mph winds
Redshirt senior Grace Lu, sophomore Judy Amano and freshman Elizabeth Ryu all finished Friday play with six-over-par 76s. Ryu rolled in back-to-back birdies on holes two and three, while Amano added a birdie on the 14th hole.
Sophomore Joline Truong (+10) and junior Emily James (+12) rounded out the team scorecard.
