Three Rutgers Divers to Compete at USA Diving Summer Nationals

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – This week, three Rutgers divers will compete at a prestigious meet for USA Diving, as the organization will host their Summer Nationals event, located in Morgantown, West Virginia at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center on the campus of West Virginia University. Bailee Sturgill, Gianna Lawrence and Madilyn Varnum are set to be in action.
Varnum will be in action first as part of the event's qualification round. She will be in qualifying action on Thursday, looking to qualify for the main meet on both the 1M and 3M boards.
Following qualification rounds, the Summer Nationals event starts fully on Friday. Lawrence will compete on the 1M and 3M boards starting over the weekend, with 3M scheduled for Saturday and 1M set for Sunday.
Then on Tuesday, Sturgill will compete in her lone event of the competition. She will be in action in the Synchronized 3M event, where she will pair with Lily Witte of Indiana University.
Sturgill and Varnum each enter their junior seasons 'On the Banks', while Lawrence is a rising sophomore. Sturgill was a First Team Scholar All-American last season after being an NCAA Qualifier on 1M, 3M and Platform, finishing top-four in all three boards at NCAA Zones. A Big Ten podium finisher on the 1M Dive (seventh), she also earned a Big Ten Diver of the Week accolade during last season. She also holds a wealth of experience competing internationally for USA Diving.
