Record Turnout Highlights Action at 13th Annual Unger-DeBlasio Cup

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's golf hosted a record 120 participants at its 13th Annual Unger-DeBlasio Cup on Friday, September 18, at the Rutgers University Golf Course. It marked the first sellout in the cup's history, with Director of Athletics Keli Zinn addressing the crowd prior to the start of the outing.
The program presented Grace Lu with the Maura Waters Ballard Scoring Champion Award for her scoring average of 73.50 - her second consecutive time producing the program's lowest scoring average. Lu was one of five Scarlet Knights recognized as WGCA All-American Scholars, along with Krystal Li, Emily James, Elizabeth Ryu, and Joline Truong. James, Li, Lu, and Truong were also honored as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.
The Don and Penny Pray Service Award was presented to Jason Newcomb. The President of Newroads Financial Group and an avid Rutgers Athletics donor and supporter, Newcomb has worked closely with Team LeGrand of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
Marking 49 years of Rutgers women's golf, the Unger-DeBlasio Cup honors two of the program's former mentors, Jan Unger and Art DeBlasio. Women's golf became an intercollegiate sport at Rutgers in 1977 and was led by Unger, who spent 17 years as head coach.
