The 2026–27 season marks Patrick Spraggs’ third year “On the Banks” as Assistant Coach for the Rutgers men’s golf program, where he continues to play an integral role in the team’s upward trajectory and competitive success.
Spraggs joined Scarlet Knights golf in February 2025, bringing with him a dynamic blend of international playing experience and a well-rounded professional résumé. Working under Head Coach Rob Shutte, the Suffolk, England native quickly made an impact in Piscataway, contributing his global perspective, technical expertise, and passion for player development.
The 2025–26 campaign - his first full season with Rutgers - proved historic for the program. Spraggs was instrumental in helping guide both the team and individual players to record-setting achievements. Rutgers posted its best-ever finish at the Big Ten Championship, placing fourth at Pumpkin Ridge, while a program-record five golfers earned PING All-Northeast Region honors. The season also featured four different Scarlet Knights capturing Big Ten Player of the Week accolades - further reflecting the program’s depth and competitive excellence.
“Patrick brings a wealth of golf experience and a unique international perspective that will greatly benefit our student-athletes,” said Head Coach Rob Shutte. “His professional background as both a player and coach, combined with his natural ability to connect with young athletes, makes him an invaluable addition to our coaching staff.”
Spraggs’ journey in golf began as a standout amateur in England. He represented England at the Dutch Junior Masters in 2009 and earned selection to Team Europe for the prestigious 2010 Palmer Cup at Royal Portrush - an honor reserved for the game’s top collegiate players. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Studies from the University of Stirling in 2013, a globally respected hub for elite golf talent. During his collegiate career, Spraggs also spent time competing at East Tennessee State University, gaining valuable experience within the American collegiate system.
With more than 15 years immersed in the game, Spraggs has developed a comprehensive understanding of golf at every level. His experience spans professional competition across European mini tours, the EuroPro Tour, and the PGA professional circuit. He has also served in key instructional and operational roles as an Assistant PGA Professional at Woodbridge Golf Club, Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club, and Stonham Barns Golf Centre in England.
In the United States, Spraggs further expanded his expertise while working as a caddie at several of the nation’s most prestigious clubs, including Kinsale Golf Club, The Old Collier Golf Club in Naples, Florida, and Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. These experiences have enriched his understanding of elite performance environments and player preparation.
Coach Shutte had tracked Spraggs’ development for several years prior to his hiring and was particularly impressed by the immediate connection he forged with the Rutgers student-athletes during the interview process. His energy, authenticity, and commitment to athlete growth were evident from the outset and continue to define his coaching approach.
Off the course, Spraggs resides in New Jersey with his wife, Nicole, and their children, Karoline and Arthur, with the family eagerly anticipating the arrival of their third child.
