Shterenberg finished second overall with a composite score of 39.100, the second-highest ever by a RU gymnast. Shterenberg’s score is only 0.200 off from former teammate Katie Russo (1999-2002) and her record score of 39.300, achieved on Feb. 26, 2000. Shterenberg is only the third Scarlet Knight all-arounder to score above a 39.0. UM’s Rachel Martinez won the overall title with a 39.625, while teammate Kristi Skowronski placed third with a score of 38.800.
The Scarlet Knight vault rotation posted a 48.550, the second-highest team score in RU history, just 0.05 shy of the record of 48.600 achieved earlier this season (Feb.28). Leading the way for the vault team was senior Kristen Marino (Hillsborough, NJ) who tied for second with a 9.825. Rookie Jamye Shelton (Griffin, GA) tied for fourth with a 9.725, while fellow freshman Erin Lynch (Mullica Hill, NJ) tied for sixth with a 9.700. UM’s Martinez won the event with a 9.900.
On bars, Marino led the way again, scoring a 9.850 in a third-place tie. Shterenberg followed closely in fifth place with a score of 9.800, while senior Kamla Modi (Bayside, NY) earned a 9.750 on bars, finishing seventh. Martinez tied with teammate Mandy Pascual for first place, each scoring a 9.875.
The beam team was led by Shterenberg and sophomore Nicci Bradder (Dover, NH), who tied for sixth place with 9.800’s. Junior Caitlin Wight (Washington, PA) contributed a 9.775 for her eighth-place tie. Maryland’s Sarah Hoenig won the event with a 9.925.
Rutgers won the floor event with a 48.600, passing Maryland’s 47.950 in the event. Shterenberg finished second in the event with a 9.850, followed by Lynch and Wight’s third-place scores of 9.800. Sophomore Janice Blackistone (Kensington, MD), scored a 9.750 to finish sixth on floor. Martinez won her third event crown of the evening with a 9.950 on floor.
Rutgers will wrap up the regular season at the University of North Carolina on Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m. The Knights will then head to the University of New Hampshire for the 2003 EAGL Championship on Friday, March 28, at 6 p.m.
