Rutgers Accepts Bid to Insight Bowl
Nov 28 | Football
Rutgers will face Arizona State of the Pac-10 Conference in the Insight Bowl. The Scarlet Knights improved their record to 7-4, and 4-3 in the BIG EAST, with a resounding 44-9 win over Cincinnati in the regular season finale last Saturday. The Sun Devils concluded their regular season with a 6-5 mark, including 4-4 in the Pac-10. Rutgers and Arizona State have played just once before, in the 1978 Garden State Bowl.
'We're very happy to be representing Rutgers University, and the state of New Jersey, in the Insight Bowl,' said Schiano, 'and we're looking forward to having the opportunity to win our eighth football game this year.'
'We are honored to host Rutgers in the 2005 Insight Bowl,' Chairman Mike Allen said. 'The Scarlet Knights have had a storybook season, and we're excited about the opportunity to reward their players and coaches with a first-class bowl experience.
'Plus, there are plenty of people locally who are looking forward to a rematch of the 1978 Garden State Bowl. This game has to be the longest home-and-home series in the history of college football. We know Coach Schiano will have his team ready to play, and we expect a great game on December 27 at Chase Field.'
Ticket information and travel package information will be available on Rutgers' official athletics website, www.scarletknights.com later today.
